Golden Sands is a new build Primary School located on a Greenfield site in Papamoa. Stage 1 comprises 10 classrooms, an administration building, a multi-purpose building and a library resource centre.

This new school development will be the first school built to a 5* Greenstar Rating incorporating the following design principles :-

  • Reduced energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions
  • Improved water consumption
  • Improved indoor environment, which promotes wellness and wellbeing
  • Reduction and proper separation of waste
  • Adoption of environmentally friendly materials
  • Passive ventilation and exposed thermal mass
  • Heat Pump Air-conditioning with Economy Cycles
  • Stormwater harvesting with symphonic drainage
  • Lower impact on urban environment and infrastructure, including: reduced quantities of water, sewage, stormwater, power and fossil fuel use, improved air quality and traffic congestion

Due to the design process initiated prior to the introduction of the Establishment Board of Trustees (EBOT), Greenstone Group has managed the EBOT through the design process, successfully acquiring their endorsement of the design of the school.

The layout also had to allow for possible future expansion of the school incorporating 4 additional classrooms.

Adopting the Ministry of Education’s procurement model for a single line accountability approach, Greenstone Group has been appointed by the MoE as part of a design and build consortium, providing an overview role in directing this project to completion.
